Bilderberg vetos Blair as ‘President of Europe’
And then he read this.
One of ‘Europe's heavyweight political figures’ insists that Tony Blair is the ‘wrong man’ to become president of the EU because he ‘lacks the legitimacy’ for ‘the prestigious post’.
That man is one Viscount Etienne Davignon, a former Belgian government minister and European Commission vice president.
One might think, as a former aide of Paul-Henri Spaak, that he might see Mr Blair as the fulfilment of his master’s longing for someone – anyone - to lead Europe towards full political unity. He did after all once declare that he wanted ‘a man of sufficient stature to hold the allegiance of all people, and to lift us out of the economic morass in which we are sinking. Send us such a man and, be he god or the devil, we will receive him.’
The job description seems perfect for Mr Blair.
So why does Cranmer now doubt that he will actually get the job?
Because Viscount Etienne Davignon is chairman of the Bilderberg Group.
