President Obama on Father's Day

Cranmer now receives at least one communication each week from The White House. He never requested them; he never subscribed to anything, for he was not a supporter: he was not, and never could be, an 'Obamacon'. But President Obama's Media Affairs Office must have trawled the internet and discovered His Grace's resistance in some obscure corner, and the campaign to convert him has been unrelenting.

Most of what he receives is Obama-aggrandising waffle to sustain the cult. But occasionally, this President connects quite remarkably with people he would not naturally find allies. And the connection works, fot it reaches out, it embraces, and it reaches those ashes which other political leaders do not reach. Cranmer was sent the following Proclamation signed by the President regarding Father’s Day.

THE WHITE HOUSE
Office of the Press Secretary
For Immediate Release June 18, 2009
FATHER'S DAY, 2009

- - - - - - -

BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

A PROCLAMATION

The journey of fatherhood provides unique and lasting joys. Cradling a baby in his arms, a father experiences the miracle of life and an unbreakable bond. Fathers imagine a world of possibilities awaiting their children and contemplate the privilege of helping them reach that expanse of opportunity. As kids grow and mature, they look to their dad for a special kind of love and support. Providing these necessities can bring great happiness.

Fatherhood also brings great responsibilities. Fathers have an obligation to help rear the children they bring into the world. Children deserve this care, and families need each father's active participation.

Fathers must help teach right from wrong and instil in their kids the values that sustain them for a lifetime. As they encounter new and challenging experiences, children need guidance and counsel. Fathers need to talk with their kids to help them through difficult times. Parents must also help their children make the right choices by serving as strong role models. Honest and hard-working fathers are an irreplaceable influence upon their children.

Communities must do more to counsel fathers. Family and friends, and faith-based and community organizations, can speak directly with men about the sacrifices and rewards of having a child. These groups can support men as they take on the great challenges of child-rearing. Through honest and open dialogue, more men can choose to become model parents and know the wonders of fatherhood.

On Father's Day, we pay tribute to the loving and caring fathers who are strengthening their families and country. We also honor those surrogate fathers who raise, mentor, or care for someone else's child. Thousands of young children benefit from the influence of great men, and we salute their willingness to give and continue giving. We also express special gratitude to fathers who serve in the United States Armed Forces for the sacrifices they and their families make every day. All of these individuals are making great contributions, and children across the country are better off for their care.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, BARACK OBAMA, President of the United States of America, in accordance with a joint resolution of the Congress approved April 24, 1972, as amended (36 U.S.C. 109), do hereby proclaim June 21, 2009, as Father's Day. I direct the appropriate officials of the Government to display the flag of the United States on all Government buildings on this day. I urge all Americans to express their love, respect, and admiration to their fathers, and I call upon all citizens to observe this day with appropriate programs, ceremonies, and activities.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this eighteenth day of June, in the year of our Lord two thousand nine, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and thirty-third.

BARACK OBAMA

"Fathers must help teach right from wrong..."

And who, pray, is going to teach Obama right from wrong? He seems to have every intention of royally screwing the country he purports to be leading. Cap and Trade is only part of it.

What's he going to say to all those fathers his policies, if successful, are going to put out of work?

Your Grace's initial cynicism is not faulty. Please don't be blinded by BS hype of this kind.

What a poseur - the man is so obsessed with himself that the concept of service to his subjects (oops, electorate) would seem alien to him. Are Americans incapable of cringing? Do the not remember the platitudes of Jimmy Carter.

President Obama is commendably unintimidated in his use of language. While "kid" sometimes seems to be the only admissible noun in the English language to denote a person who is not yet an adult, "child" having been found jarring or offensive, Obama restores the balance by using "child[ren]" eleven times and "kid[s]" only three times.

You are a natural human being of the Earth, you are ultimately not governed by anything other than your own consciousness.

"In religion and politics, people's beliefs and convictions are almost in every case gotten at second hand, and without examination, from the authorities who have not themselves examined the questions at issue, but have taken them at second hand from other non-examiners, whose opinions about them were not worth a brass farthing."
-Mark Twain

The dilemma that humanity faces today is that we don't truly know ourselves anymore. We have the nine 'til five job, we have the house, the children, the bills, the television, the hobbies and the errands that we run every single day, and we eventually begin to believe this is who we are. But who are we beneath the 'job title', beneath the status of 'mother' or 'father', theist or atheist, Labour or Conservative, black or white, man or woman, who are we? Who are we deep down inside?

We don't know because every time we hear answers we don't want to accept about ourselves we deny it. We pass it off and project it onto somebody else and judge them for it. This is 'repression', and we see what repression can do to us on an individual level, but what about on a collective level of humanity? What happens when the whole world refuses to see what they truly are on the inside?

They repress....redact, project and judge. Adorn the cloak of denial and praise the kings new clothes.

I wouldnt get too hot under the collar. It looks like a traditional presidential thing to do.

Expect him to give a proclamation for National School Lunch week (whenever that is)which is also on the list of Patriotic Societies and Observances.

Is Obama more religious than George W. Bush?

Atheists keep faith with Obama – for now.

Obama is obviously trying to convert you to the True Faith, just like his fawning Millions have been.
You are obviously not part of the 20% of the populace that are easily hypnotizable.

Not an Obama fan either, but please--every so often, a moment of lucid thought emerges from his environs.

Acknowledging these events does not imply any sort of endorsement of the man and his plans as a whole.

So, for today, something good happened. Thank you, your Grace, for sharing it with us.

Surely, Barak, you are not suggesting that an environment in which a child is raised by 2 mothers is not ideal?

What would the LGBT community say!

Fathers have a vital role to play in the family unit.
Blair/browns government has done much to undermine that family unit.

I think that this nitpicking at Obama's statements is small-minded. How is it not good that Obama is encouraging fathers to take an active role in rearing their children? As Co-Founder of Ecodads it is also my mission to make fathers understand they have a role in teaching their children deeper respect for mother nature. Please visit the site and consider becoming a member to work with other dads on projects and initiatives to make your homes more energy efficient, to create US jobs, to get plastic off the ball fields, to build community gardens, to make more informed investment decisions, and more.

It's not about tree hugging, it's about building a better America.

I'm rather chuffed about the White House Obama interest in Cranmer! It provides credibility when I recommend Cranmer to others (e.g. ESL students of Political Science, etc.).

Now, perhaps #10 may also monitor the site: but if so, they're doing it in secret....

Otherwise, fo what my own little word is worth - Happy Dads Day to All Dads!!

Your Grace (my Anglican protocol is a bit rusty, I'm now a Catholic), Perhaps you have to live in America to appreciate this President's talent "to connect." Unfortunately, he connects most substantially with partisans who have done little to fortify manhood and fatherhood in this country. Values most effectively undone in our public schools -- a "genocide of minds" is what the Detroit News calls their product. I could not help notice your comment that President Bush never bothered to put you on his media list. However, he did do this: bioethicists such as Dr. Klass and orthodox Christian priests such as the late Fr. Richard John Neuhaus were frequent visitors to the Oval Office. Something of more consequence, don't you think?
By the way, I still have my father's copy of your beautiful Book of Common Praye.

Ode to Apple Pies! (chuckle)

Concerning the American text I don't think the writer would be familiar with Keats. Most of the communicants on this site have better literary expression than this. One would think a little more effort could have been made to deliver a polished piece considering His Grace's consistently high standards and his highly critical followers.

Fine, but even Hitler & Stalin probably said something on a particular day we can all agree with. One has to look beyond the fluff at the substance -- Obama is not a good man.

So as the world watches Tehran on TV, as Obambi warned, he goes out and buys ice cream.
What a gross dereliction of presidential duty.
I see Obamni has had a terrible week in the polls, as Amercians fear the impact of his policies.
The Rassmussen Poll today has him in negative territory.

I'm a bit of a novice in these matters - can one of my American friends tell me if Father's Day has to be proclaimed every year? We've been having them for a few decades now, ever since the greeting card companies struck a rich vein of opportunity.

I supose the same-sex "marriage" crowd is up in arms about this.

He also proclaimed Mother's Day earlier this year:

Mother's Day

Taken together, they make a very strong case for the traditional family and traditional marriage.

"Cranmer now receives at least one communication each week from The White House."

I feel ignored!! My President communicates weekly with a card-carrying Christian foreigner, and I get not a single Christmas card. Life is unfair.
