EU abolishes Christmas

You might think this to be one of the ‘Euromyths’ – rights up there with straight bananas, the re-classification as the carrot as a fruit and the EU-wide harmonisation of condom size.

Except that the European Commission really have produced a new religiously-correct daily planner (aimed, naturally, at school children) in which it really is always winter but never Christmas.

Or always Diwali, Hanukkah and Eid but never Christmas, to be precise.

His Grace is loath to exaggerate or distort this story in any way, lest it be classified as just another Euromyth.

These daily planners, of which three million have produced (courtesy of the taxpayer), include the holidays of Jews, Muslims, Sikhs and Hindus, but there is not one mention of Christian holidays.

Despite Christians manifestly constituting the vast majority of the European Union.

You might expect them to omit Ascension Sunday, Lent and the Feast Day of the Blessed John Henry Cardinal Newman.

But Christmas and Easter?

The page for December 25th is completely empty, and at the bottom is the following message:
"A true friend is someone who shares your worries and your joy.”
That’s nice.

And evidence, if any were needed, that Christians have no true friends in the inner sanctuaries of the European Union.

It is even more astonishing that this planner not only includes the holy days of just about every religion except Christianity: it also mentions the secular key dates of significance to the European Union, like ‘Europe Day’.

Johanna Touzel, spokesperson for COMECE (the pathologically-federalist Commission of the Bishops' Conferences of the European Union) found the planner ‘unbelievable’.

It is even more incroyable when you consider that our President is a devout Roman Catholic who sees the EU as a ‘Christian club’.

Doubtless he will gloss over this a typo.

To omit one Christian festival may be regarded as an error; to omit two looks like carelessness.

But to omit all of them looks like conspiracy.

Or at least incontrovertible corroborative evidence that the EU is a God-less, Marxist, secular, religiously and politically-correct, totalitarian, omnipotent beast quite antithetical to Christians, Christianity and the message of Christ.

A little odd if fairly predictable. Though as Abraham Kuyper put it

"There is not one square inch of the entire creation about which Jesus Christ does not cry out, 'Mine!'"

...so in a sense every day is a Christian day, and I wont need a calender to remind me of that.

I'm shocked to say that I agree with "dave bish" here.

Maybe Wales has been non-conformist for too long, but surely the pure Christian faith needs no man-made religious feasts to butress it.

I assume the EU Agenda includes every Sunday? If so, then that should be enough. The church celebrates Christ's resurrection every week. Amen?

Only the false religions need a vaste range of special days to justify their existence.

Or perhaps it could be seen as an endorsement of the truth of our claims, that we alone have the faith that the devil knows will bring him to judgement & Hell & release mankind from his grip when the gospel is preached to all nations.
We know from history, (another subject that the EU wants to erase) that satan has tried many ways over the years to obscure or deny man access to the living word that saves us from sharing his eternal destiny.

Your Grace, many years ago I was taught that the Greek definition of "democracy" was the greater good of the greater number. Today, the definition would appear to be that the majority must always bow to the minority to avoid accusations of a discriminatory or judgemental nature. This has led to a huge and potentially very dangerous gap opening up between the wishes of the majority and the laws imposed upon them by the politicians. So here we have a clearly Christian majority discriminated against by the European political elite. This is going to end very, very badly.

For evil to succeed it is only necessary for good men to do nothing........

The complacency shown in some of the comments is dispiriting: Christianity defended with all the vigour of a wet lettuce.

Mind you, Brussels has more important things to do than snubbing Christianity, as President Barroso makes clear: ‘We have come to Tripoli with the fascinating long-term perspective of a Euro-African economic area in mind—an area which will provide opportunities for 2·5 billion citizens by 2050.’

Stuart Reid has told me something that he has also repeatedly said in print, and which Auberon Waugh also used to write, that at least the atheism of the EU was Catholic atheism. But it is not.

So much for co-operation with the civil authorities. What if the civil authority is the EU? What if there is practically no functioning civil authority, as in some countries where the Catholic Church is active? What if it would be better that there were not than that there were what there is, as in very many such countries?

What if it is the Dutch civil authority, which has lowered the age of consent to 12, that, and not anything either Catholic or Reformed, being the vision of the Netherlands defended by the likes of Geert Wilders and the late Pim Fortuyn? (The legal situation in the Vatican City State, mercifully meaningless in practice, is an inherited imposition by Mussolini, lest anyone ever suggest either that he favoured the Church or that She favoured him.) What if the civil authority is a court presided over by Oz Robertson QC?

There can be no better day to consider these questions than today, the Feast of Saint Thomas of Canterbury. Ora pro nobis.

Allegiance to Jesus Christ is a fundamental breach of Political Correctness so it is hardly a surprise that the godless EU has airbrushed all Christian festivals from a children’s calendar.

The EU is a nest of conspiracies. There is certainly a conspiracy to crush Christianity but the effects are subtle and gradual. The evil empire moves by stealth rather than conquest.
The religions that they appear to tolerate are merely tools of convenience and part of the weaponry ranged against national cultures. The EU elite want to see nations ripped apart. Importing colonists is part of the plan for indigenous cultural collapse and its replacement with their Eurosocialist federal dystopia.
It is a “Trojan Horse” strategy that threatens even the rulers that promote it but they are too deluded to notice.

I agree with Johnny Rottenborough.

No wonder Christianity is on the ropes in Europe; not even its believers care enough to defend it. How passively you are all prepared to head into oblivion--because you are heading into oblivion. You're abandoning the responsibility of preserving Christ's living truth to a remnant.

It's not enough to say that, somehow, Christianity will always prevail. The church is God's body on earth, and we are its component members. We must defend the faith for the sake of the world as well as of ourselves.

I say this as a devout Orthodox Christian.

Shame. Shame.

More Christians need to stand up & speak out. The stakes of this war are the highest ever. The souls of men. We do not fight for victory, that is already achieved. But to save those that are in danger of judgement & Hell.
The pompous plans of Dictators & Kings are fated to failure as history proves. God laughs at their buffoonery.
The question is, who will join with us to use the weapons of this war, the Word of God, The sword of the Spirit, Wielded by the breath of our mouths to the Muslim, the Sikh, the Hindu, the Atheist & all who do not know Him as both Lord & Saviour?.
God does not need us in the work of salvation. But He allows us to participate in what is not a burden, but a blessing.

The 'explanation' is an 'oversight' and that it's too expensive to recall these diarys and reissue them.

As a christian and sovereign state, just, we should refuse to accept, maked "return to sender, address unknown."

The person or persons responsible should be held accountable for this gross waste of public money - if it's possible to detect this within the myriad buraucracy that is the EU.

This 'oversight' cannot be laid at the door of the EU President - Catholic or no. He is centre right in his politices. A bit like you.

Not a bad idea having the facility for a referendum on this one!

Forgive my impertinence but you really do seem to want all things your own way.

One the one hand you bemoan the decline of christian values in Europe and Britain. Yet at the same time you lauch unreasoned attacks on the Church of Rome.

You refer to Blessed Cardinal Newman, a notable convert to Catholicism, and then disparage the one christian EU body attempting to preserve Europe's christian foundation.

Point to any sentence in the COMECE proposals that impinge on the rights of individual states to promote and protect their own religion. Justify your opinion they are 'pathologically federalist'. Agreed they support a European Union in the interests of common good over national interest for 500 million people. No bad thing when you reflect where the opposite led in two major European conflicts and countless wars in the preceeding centuries.

Maybe it is you who is 'pathologically' holding onto outmoded thinking based on a paranoia that there is a conspiracy afoot for Rome, in league with Masons and Marxists, to conquer and control the planet through a World Parliament!

Do try to temper and moderate your critiques and resist the habit of disparaging Rome at every available opportunity. There really is no need. At best it's unbecoming for a man claiming clerical credentials.

It is even more incroyable when you consider that our President is a devout Roman Catholic who sees the EU as a ‘Christian club’.

The EU has certainly much to do with The RCC, however as you seem to have alluded to, very little to do with being Christian, and certainly not anything whatsoever to do with the words and teachings of Jesus Christ, if the RCC can possibly help itself.

Forgive me if I have in anyway miss-understood, or misrepresented your views on this matter.

Allow me to explain how things have long since worked in this world of theirs.

The powers that be move in mysterious ways.

Mysterious ways because real power is most profitably retained and practiced as secretly, therefore as anonymously as possible.

The simplest and most tried and tested method of achieving this is to first instigate, and then control your own opposition.

Using this type of subversive method, a very powerful organization, or individual can far easier control the entire debate, and therefore ultimate outcome.

For example, in the same way that the establishment invented, created, financed and so also controls socialism. While at the same time easily controlling the reactionary forces supposedly opposing socialism, for example conservatism, liberalism, and organized religion..

Another example would be how MI6 adopted, trained, financed and so also control people like Assange, and his Wiki-leaks.

Yet another example was how the creators of the Federal Reserve, set up and controlled their own opposition, to their own Federal Reserve Act. Therefore could at a time of their own choosing destroy their own opposition, so as to make it appear that the fears, and concerns of the people had in some way been answered. When of course the exact opposite was the case.

I hope I have made my point.

Dear Chancellor More

Please try to understand the implications within the following.

If The RCC had EVER been what it so repeatedly professes itself to be. Why in the name of the almighty do will still only barely exist in what is clearly no better then a living hell for the vast majority of mankind?

Christians meet in congregations, not churches, or temples.

They certainly should not reside in palaces, get in anyway involved in the extremely corrupted world of politics, make deals, give sanctuary, and then safe passage to mass murdering Nazis, instigate its own mass murdering, and torturing inquisitions, own massive gold reserves, own their own sovereign nations, own vast numbers of copyrights, or invest countless millions in arms producing multi-national corporations, so they can continue to do all of the above, and a whole lot worse. This while spiritual, or otherwise poverty, malnutrition, repressive taxation, and just plane old ordinary repression, are more common today then they were 2000 years ago.

IMO the only original sin, was the setting up of The Roman Catholic Church itself, in the first place. Those Romans bar-stewards, really do have a lot to answer for, don't you think?

Your Grace begins to sound like himself, again :)) Please count me among those who especially appreciate your last paragraph.

To the attack dogs, I say, "Down, Boys!" His Grace neither reviles Catholicism at large, nor is his reaction disproportionate. The civilised aspects of this culture have benefitted from Christianity for nigh on 2000 years; and with every re-inscription and deconstruction we descend further into degradation.

This 'oversight' was no mistake. Say, what happened to the 'trade' aspect of that mythological Common Market? Christmas is no small matter - even for non-Christian motives, the euSSR has indulged the festival through commercialism.

As His Grace says: To omit one Christian festival may be regarded as an error; to omit two looks like carelessness. But to omit all of them looks like conspiracy.
Everything the euSSR does is calculated to re-make us in the image they've allotted to us. And that has nothing to do with truth/Truth, reality, or our genuine Identity.

So let's just delete them from our calendars instead.

It is ridiculous of the EU to outlaw Christmas, as it is just as paganly religious as other festivals of other religions. But if true followers of Jesus really were serious about their faith, they would spend their time loving their neighbours into the Kingdom of God and sharing the truth about Jesus rather than worrying about political enfringements of freedom. The New Roman Empire is coming back, whether we like it or not. I believe that the only thing which will shake us out of our complacent lukewarmness is persecution and suffering.

Yes, my friend, that's exactly it. The EU cares nothing for you, knowing that it is a lost cause, but it will get your children via the school system.

EU inspired geography makes the (incorect) point that Europe is the same as the eu. It's no such thing. But all statistics, facts, teaching in the books says that it is. The countries outside the EU e.g. the Swiss, simply don;t exist.

And so it is with other subjects, too, especially history where the eu has already rewritten WW2 in several ways

The result is an attitude of mind growing up in our young people that the eu is all powerful, our beloved rulers. It is to be blessed, it is the keeper of the peace, the great omniciscent power that is the provider of all good.

It's subtle, it's pervasive, it works, and we're paying for it.

Go and talk to a few 20 something year olds on the street about it and you'll see what I mean

It's sickening, of course, but that's the way of dictatorships.
