The President of the United States bows to the Queen of the United Kingdom

It's very subtle, but quite unmistakable: President Obama respectfully bows to Her Majesty just after taking his third step. His Grace applauds the reverence, even if the President's respect is not quite as deeply felt and ostentatiously expressed as it was for the King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia:

Courtesy and old world charm may be described as reverence but aren't you being a little too mischievous using it with the header YG?

The Queen had a much better time here in Ireland. There's talk amongst you British folk of establishing a republic? Good, if ye don't want the Queen, will have her. Thank you very much.

Sorry - watched the clip a dozen times and would have to say that calling that all but imperceptible dip a bow is wishful thinking, certainly when compared with the very clear bow he made to King Abdullah. But I'd agree with Damo/Anonymous' comment: The Queen was very well received here in Ireland. Less 'fireworks' than the Presidential visit, but far more substance.

Sorry, Your Grace. I must be blinking too much - I see no bow to HM. All I see is two towering monuments to democracy flouncing into the Palace. Now Abdullah is not as short as the Queen, so that's not the reason the other man with the complexion bowed.

Of course, if either the Omega or his wife with the froggie name had bowed, no-one in the U.S. would ever have respected them again!

Your Grace:

I saw no bow. The one Head of State I could forgive him bowing to, he doesn't.

Until this man came along no president bowed to anyone, just as we do not dip Old Glory to anyone.

He's another Jimmy Carter and for that I hope you will forgive our electorate.

There's no bow; he leans forward in preparation for the first step (up).

One hopes an inventory of the silver was made, following his visit?

Naah, couldn't see it.

I noticed that he also dared to walk a few paces in front of The Duke of Edinburgh earlier today, completely ignoring him when inspecting the Guard of Honour assembled for his sake. His lack of either manners, respect, etiquette or all three belies the real nature of man, shown in His Grace's second clip - he is a muslim, so what more can we expect.

Oswin, I hear it's customary for muslims to use their fingers to eat, so HM may just manage to retain a full complement of cutlery after his visit.

No groveling please. She deserves the same respect that should be shown to any other human being. If you bow to the queen then I hope you also bow to your postman or garbage collector!

Well, Himself is considerably taller than Her Majesty...that's all I saw.

By contrast, considering how many times we have pulled the House of Saud's fat from the fire (remember 1991?), the Saudi 'king' should kiss the feet of any visiting American President.

The Obamas see themselves as American royalty. Hey, Oprah Herself crowned the man, so all argument ceases.

No class, no manners, no thoughtfulness. Just a cleaned-up version of the Chicago street hustler he has always been.

I don`t think he did bow. Obama`s head practically touched the floor when bowing to King Abdullah.

Perhaps its a Muslim thing?

US President comes to Disneyland and the fantasy world of the destitute British makes for televisual extravaganza. Her Majesty is in real danger of becoming a theatrical prop to whatever show the Administration of the day wants to put on. Increasingly absurd

Hold on - this is the "head" of one country visiting the "head" of another. Two equals showing mutual respect - and could there also be the respect of a younger man for an older lady? What I see is a Gentleman greeting a Lady.

I don't see a bow to Her Majesty from the President, although he is showing respect.

When it comes to the Saudi king, though, I think George Bush's kiss and hand holding said more than Obama's bow.

Did anyone see the coverage of the rest of the visit last night?

After dinner, as the POTUS windbag issues yet more of his signature verbiage about the so-called 'special relationship' he's done nothing but disrespect since he entered office, the band breaks into the National Anthem, right over the top of him! I wonder who could have put them up to it?

And Her Majesty breaks into an unmistakable grin!!

She rocks!! That'll teach him to return the bust of Churchill!

I think that's the point His Grace is making with the juxtaposition between the two clips.
