The Martyrdom of Nadine

The bile, spite, vitriol and hatred being fired towards Nadine Dorries is out of all proportion. She is a human being. When you prick her, she bleeds; when you insult her, she hurts; when you threaten her, she fears; when you slander her, she grieves. Just like you.

It beggars belief, in a derided and discredited political system in which 'Cameron's Cuties' are as despised and reviled as 'Blair's Babes', that when an independently-minded MP emerges who is driven by nothing but conviction, the forces of hell are unleashed to destroy her.

Before the General Election, David Cameron promised a free vote on the upper time limit for abortion. He said: "I would like to see a reduction in the current limit, as it is clear that, due to medical advancement, many babies are surviving at 24 weeks. If there is an opportunity in the human fertilisation and embryology bill, I will be voting to bring this limit down from 24 weeks. This must, however, remain a conscience issue and a free vote."

And here we are, in Government, not even attempting to touch the upper time limit, but instead offering women a choice in counselling. Yes, a choice. And what does David Cameron do? He writes to every Conservative MP, putting pressure on them to vote against the amendment. A conscience issue, Mr Cameron? A free vote, Prime Minister?

He knows full well that a letter from Government to all his MPs functions effectively as a three-line whip. Those who seek favour and advancement will cave in, despite 92% of them supporting the amendment in their consciences.

And so Nadine is sacrificed: despised by her colleagues; rejected by those who promised her their support; another martyr to unprincipled Tory expediency. God bless you, Nadine. Unto His gracious mercy and protection His Grace commits you. The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make his face to shine upon you, and be gracious unto you. The Lord lift up his countenance upon you, and give you peace, both now and evermore. Amen.

Here's hoping.

I don't believe that any of the above has been proven, alas. What has been proved is that Nadine is a liar and a fantasist. But she's a Christian, so the latter assertion goes without saying.

Cameron and Co enjoy their little wars abroad, but they are snivelling cowards when it comes to doing something about the holocaust taking place in their own backyard. David Cameron promised an EU referendum, and broke his promise. He promised a free vote on abortion, and breaks his promise ... and he talks about a moral collapse. WHAT!

Chaucer wrote a poem, and this is a small part of it:
“This parable he joined the Word unto –
That, “If gold rust, what shall iron do?”
For if shepherd be foul in whom we trust,
No wonder if a common man should rust!”

After the recent riots Mr Cameron said, “The root cause of this mindless selfishness is … a complete lack of responsibility in parts of our society.” He had in mind 120 000 so-called feckless families ... it's always easier to blame someone else. But the real problem is the "rusted gold". It's time for our leaders to take RESPONSIBILITY, but they are spiritually blind. Let us pray.

In view of the treachery from the Conservatives, may I crave Your Grace's indulgence and post this article from the Christian Medical Fellowship blog, as its author, Dr Saunders, has effectively been banned by that bastion of truth, openness and liberalism, The Guardian, from responding to an article which mentioned him by name.

Quote: The Guardian tonight has posted an article titled ‘Anti-abortion bid in disarray as critics rally’.

I tried to post the following comment but have learnt that my comments on the Guardian are now (for the very first time) ‘pre-moderated’. Most interesting!

I wonder if they will post it and when. I have never had a comment on the Guardian pre-moderated before and many other comments by others have been posted without moderation.

The article actually mentions me by name. Clearly they now want to censor responses. How liberal of them!

My comment

The above article creates the impression that Dorries/Field, by trying to ensure that women get an offer of counseling independent from the publicly-funded abortion industry, would be forcing them out of the ‘market’. The reality is that they already have an unassailable stranglehold on it.

In 1991 the NHS funded 9,197 abortions carried out by the private sector in England and Wales. By 2010 that figure had risen to 111,775 - an increase of over 1100%. In 1991 the NHS funded 10% of abortions carried out by the private sector. By 2010 that figure had risen to 93% - a total of over £60 million of taxpayers money was paid out. The growth of NHS-funded but privately-provided abortions (BPAS/MSI etc) entirely accounted for this increase.

In addition every accredited pregnancy advice bureau is already linked to this industry and advised by the RCOG whose members carry out most abortions.

This sort of monopoly would not be tolerated in any other ‘service’ area but it is precisely this status quo that Cameron under the influence of Clegg/Harris/Unions has sought to cement to the cheers of the Guardian and the criticism of the Telegraph.

How private abortion providers gained a stranglehold on taxpayer-funded abortions under the last government -

Abortion raises risk of mental health problems by 81% says major new review -

Amendment giving women option of independent abortion counseling is a step in the right direction -

Evan Harris outwits David Cameron in abortion about-face to appease powerful pro-abortion lobby -

Just a tad too melodramatic for my taste YG.

Her amendment case was a valid and useful opener for an extended debate which would have benefited from Ms Mensch's contribution - unless of course there was after all, an ulterior motive in introducing the first stage in the eventual outlawing of abortion altogether.

Any way - where are the official responses or associated noises from the CoE Executive - now wonder the pews are cold.

He's doing women a disservice here we deserve to have independent counselling that is not given with the pressure of the £ sign above it. A GP should be able to discuss the possibility of counselling and with whom from his list of independent people/organisations with you and refer you with an appointment at your chosen body on the NHS with a small contribution made by you the patient. A max of two Counselling sessions either with same one or two different ones should be on the NHS.

Personally, I don't come to this debate from a religious standpoint - I'm agnostic.

What drew me in was the involvement of Nadine Dorries herself, because having followed and personally investigated her dispute with Tim Ireland I'm afraid I view her as dishonest, and capable of saying and doing anything to try to achieve her aims. Were it not for the fact that she is utterly unconvincing, she would almost be the perfect politician...

(No, I'm no fan of MPs in general either).

Is it wrong that David Cameron should be instructing MPs to vote against the amendment? If it's a free vote then of course it is - but then I doubt if he has in truth done any such thing. He is perfectly able to discuss his own views on the topic, is he not? Debate is something you welcome, no?

At the end of the day though, I feel the final decision when it comes to a woman's body belongs with the woman. It is not for myself, nor for the church, to start forcing our views upon her - but for her to make her own mind.

As for a free vote on banning abortion, I would welcome it - which is I suppose an odd position for someone who has been marked out as "pro-choice". I think it would be good to get a reliable view of thoughts on the topic - in fact why limit this to just the House of Commons? Let's have a referendum - only on the understanding that if religious groups are heavily defeated, they have the good grace to accept it. Of course, the same argument would apply in the other direction as well...

Your massive mistake in this campaign folks was having Nadine Dorries lead it. Anything she says will be picked apart by the legions of people who are now scrutinising her, and unfortunately for you chaps, she has a tendency to say rather a lot...

Today is, I think, the day on which I finally lost any last remaining shred of trust in, or support for, David Cameron.
I was a fool; I voted for him. Almost the first thing he does upon entering office is to turn his back on the promised EU referendum. Now I see that this wasn't a one-off aberration; the man makes a habit of pledging one thing and then turning his back on it.
All this talk of "the Big Society" indeed, when he is not prepared to take a small step to help the very weakest and most defenceless in that society. Worse than that; he SAYS that he will (in order to gain votes) but then he goes back on his word.

YG: Thank you for tackling this issue.

A recent study in the British Journal of Psychiatry, has linked abortion to a 34 percent chance of anxiety disorders, a 37 percent higher possibility of depression, a more than double risk of alcohol abuse (110 percent), a three times greater risk of marijuana use (220 percent), and a 155 percent greater risk of trying to commit suicide. Other studies have shown a strong link with breast cancer.

Abortionists are not generally informing women of these facts.

Given that abortion is fatal to the child, the only sensible purpose of counselling would be to avoid abortion. Since this appears to be legislatively impossible in the UK, at a minimum the health risks should be revealed to the woman and she should be shown a sonogram of her child.

Viking, I admire your conviction. If there's ever a real revolution here, then we will rely upon men of blood and iron such as you.

However, although I am sorely vexed at our politicians, it's not pure hate. I hate their false deeds but I cannot hate the people behind them, because I know myself to be as bad and corrupt as they are. Let's choose not to feed our hate, but to ask Christ to show us his way out from our hate. I think he can do that. And there is nothing soppy or pussy about that. There's nothing soppy about Christ enduring forty lashes of barbed flogwires and being nailed to a crucifix and dying of asphyxiation, choking on his blood for the likes of us. That wasn't easy for him. To say nothing of what he endured when he descended to the depths for us, totally separated from his Father, taking all my (and your) guilt upon himself. That actually happened, it wasn't a fairy-story. Instead of feeding my hate, I can ask God to forgive me my hate, because He has absorbed it into the passion and death of Christ, his Son.
I....I just find that that's a better way of dealing with life.

Why? Because unlike Cameron, who says one thing and then does something else, I have found that God says one thing, and then does exactly what he said he would do.

Gavin is so right. His Grace sounds dispirited and sad at Cameron's U-turn. Well, he (Cameron, that is!) is just a man after all, a weak man and not the giant we needed and hoped for. I do believe he has a big heart for family values, but not the cojones to match. One can hardly blame him for buckling under the united efforts of the harridans who went for his jugular.

We may have lost the battle, but we have not lost the war. There is hope; this can be seen in other parts of the world. Russia, which has had abortion on demand for decades, is now grasping the fact that it faces a demographic crisis, and is offering incentives for women to have more children. China, with its one child policy, is a nation of old people with not enough young with earning power to care for them.

In the US the mainstream media studiously ignores the massive turnouts for the March for Life, but they are growing bigger, and bigger - and what is more, there is evidence that the younger generation is showing more concern for the unborn.

Nadine's amendment might just have been 'wrong time, wrong place' as well as 'wrong Conservative leader'. But I have faith that concern will continue to grow as people become more informed of the dangers to women's mental health, the increased risk of breast cancer, and other ills attached to abortion, and I pray that this vile trade will eventually diminish. One day we will look back on this episode with horror.

Are we aware that the abortion movement started with lies and deception and total vilification of anyone who would disagree?

Some would know of the late Dr Bernard Nathanson who became one of the most prominent opponents of abortion; after being responsible for 75,000 or so abortions himself. What is not immediately obvious to everyone is that the abortion movement started with deception and even lies. Dr Nathanson has been very explicit on this . He said regarding the campaign to legalise abortion in the US:

'We fed the public a line of deceit, dishonesty, a fabrication of statistics and figures. We succeeded [in breaking down the laws limiting abortions] because the time was right and the news media cooperated. We sensationalized the effects of illegal abortions, and fabricated polls which indicated that 85% of the public favoured unrestricted abortion, when we knew it was only 5%. We unashamedly lied, and yet our statements were quoted [by the media] as though they had been written in law.'

The statistics of maternal mortality due to self-induced abortion were grossly exaggerated. Dr Nathanson writes:

'How many deaths were we talking about when abortion was illegal? In NARAL (National Association for Repeal of Abortion Laws) we generally emphasized the drama of the individual case, not the mass statistics, but when we spoke of the latter it was always 5,000 to 10,000 a year. I confess that I knew the figures were totally false, But in the "morality" of our revolution, it was a useful figure, widely accepted, so why go out of our way to correct it with honest statistics?' The official figures of maternal death due to illegal abortion before abortion was legalised was 160. Dr Nathanson estimates the actual figure to be around 500 maternal deaths per year. (Bernard Nathanson, Richard Ostling. Aborting America. Pinnacle Books. New York 1979.)

Dr Nathanson - continued from previous post

n a speech Dr NAthanson said about his attempts to legalise abortion:

'There was only silence from the opposition. We fed a line of deceit, of dishonesty, of fabrication of statistics and figures; we coddled, caressed, and stroked the press. (...) We were calling ourselves pro- abortionists and pro-choice. In fact we were abortifiers: those who like abortion. Let me digress and speak for a moment on the question of 'pro- choice', as they euphemistically call themselves now. I reject that phrase, that euphemism. It is misleading. It is dishonest. It implies that in the issue of abortion there is an ethical choice whether to have an abortion or whether not to have an abortion;...Of course... abortion is not an ethical choice.
'The discussion... has been muddied by a resort to a particularly vicious brand of anti-Catholicism, as many of you know, in the press. There have been ongoing attempts to paint this movement [the pro-life movement] as a Catholic movement, and there have been almost heartbreaking lies and libel in the press on this score. If you ever substituted for the word Catholic, in many of these publications the word Jewish or black, you would be immediately castigated. The press would destroy you. However, because the word Catholic is used, it appears to be allowable.' (quoted in John Powell, Abortion: the silent Holocaust. Tabor, Allen, Texas. 1981.)

"We must courageously face the fact - finally - that human life of a special order is being taken. (...) The fierce militants of the Women's Liberation evade this issue and assert that the woman's right to bear or not to bear children is her absolute right. (...) On the other hand the ferocious Right-to life legions proclaim no rights for the women and absolute rights for the fetus. (...) Somewhere in the vast philosophic plateau between the two implacably opposed camps- past the slogans, past the pamphlets, past even the demonstrations and the legislative threats - lies the infinitely agonizing truth. We are taking life, and the deliberate taking of life, even of a special order and under special circumstances, is an inexpressibly serious matter." (Bernard Nathanson. Deeper into Abortion. New England Journal of Medicine. 28 November 1974.)

Oh hey, why all the surprise?

Once you take Judaeo-Christianity out of the equation, the true nature of 'humanity' reasserts itself. The real 'bronze-age desert folk' cavorted round altars offering sacrifices to the 'golden' calf: human and child sacrifice were the order of the day. As Milton interpreted it:

"The chief were those who from the Pit of Hell
Roaming to seek thir prey on earth, durst fix
Thir seats long after next the Seat of God
Thir Altars by His Altar, gods ador'd
Among the Nations round,...
His holy Rites, and solemn Feasts profan'd,
(PL 381-5...390)
First MOLOCH, horrid King besmear'd with blood
Of human sacrifice, and parents tears,
Though, for the noise of Drums and Timbrels loud
Thir children's cries unheard, that pass'd through fire
To his grim Idol. Him the AMMONITE
Worshipt in RABBA and her wat'ry Plain,
In ARGOB and in BASAN, to the stream
Of utmost ARNON. Nor content with such
Audacious neighbourhood, the wisest heart
Of SOLOMON he led by fraud to build
His Temple right against the Temple of God
On that opprobrious Hill, and made his Grove
The pleasant Vally of HINNOM, TOPHET thence
And black GEHENNA call'd, the Type of Hell."
(Milton, Paradise Lost I 392-405; ref. Jeremiah 19.6)

What with that and Baal, should we not, perhaps, meditate afresh on how the The Way of the Son of God precludes all this? For He told His disciples to eat and drink bread and wine: as His Body and Blood. (Matt. 26:26-28, cf Luke and John). Shouldn't we assume that they understood the connotations?

Since then, the Aztec Huitzipochtli and Stephen King's desert gods* have continuously drunk the blood of the young, as warriors. In contrast, Protestant Christianity has fought, for so long, to render that Sacrifice symbolic. Perhaps the sacrifice of Nadine may help raise our awareness of what is going on.

Your Grace, I pray in addition: "Let it not be in vain."

'that sacrifice' above = child sacrifice, as a factor of whatever 'lust du jour.'

Thank you Philip Pennance

Very moving and another demonstration of the Church’s forgiving nature at repentance no matter what the magnitude of the crime is.

The human race was indeed in need of a moral code to escape it,s primitive urges. We can only thank God that we in the west were brought Christianity...

Your welcome.

There is also the case of Stojan Adasevic, who performed 48,000 abortions who is is now an important pro-life leader in Serbia.

According to the Catholic News Agency (CNA)

In the the 80s, he began to have nightmares. Adasevic “dreamed about a beautiful field full of children and young people who were playing and laughing, from 4 to 24 years of age, but who ran away from him in fear. A man dressed in a black and white habit stared at him in silence. The dream was repeated each night and he would wake up in a cold sweat. One night he asked the man in black and white who he was. ‘My name is Thomas Aquinas,’ the man in his dream responded. Adasevic, educated in communist schools, had never heard of the Dominican genius saint. He didn’t recognize the name”

“Why don’t you ask me who these children are?” St. Thomas asked Adasevic in his dream.“They are the ones you killed with your abortions,’ St. Thomas told him. “Adasevic awoke in amazement and decided not to perform any more abortions,”.

“That same day a cousin came to the hospital with his four months-pregnant girlfriend, who wanted to get her ninth abortion—something quite frequent in the countries of the Soviet bloc. The doctor agreed. Instead of removing the fetus piece by piece, he decided to chop it up and remove it as a mass. However, the baby’s heart came out still beating. Adasevic realized then that he had killed a human being,”

After this experience, Adasevic “told the hospital he would no longer perform abortions. Never before had a doctor in Communist Yugoslavia refused to do so. They cut his salary in half, fired his daughter from her job, and did not allow his son to enter the university.”
After years of pressure and on the verge of giving up, he had another dream about St. Thomas.

“You are my good friend, keep going,’ the man in black and white told him. Adasevic became involved in the pro-life movement and was able to get Yugoslav television to air the film ‘The Silent Scream,’ by Doctor Bernard Nathanson, two times.”

Adasevic has returned to the Orthodox faith of his childhood and has studied the writings of St. Thomas Aquinas.
