Mark of the Beast?
His Grace has never been one for equating technological advances like scanning barcodes and ID micro-chips with the Mark of the Beast. But he knows a great many who do. There's something about the ubiquity of ID numbers and the inexorable advance towards a cashless society which coheres with the premillennial-tribulationsist belief in the emergence of an oppressive economic system by which believers may eventually be identified and persecuted.
And yet there's something decidedly unnerving about the Skinput project, developed by Microsoft Research and Carnegie Mellon University. This technology shifts away from keypads, smartphones and touchscreens to give you 'all the features of a touch-screen on your skin (arms, legs)'. Yes, your body becomes the ultimate display screen, with commands typed directly onto human tissue - by oneself or others.
It is simply a matter of physiological and ergonomic logic that the back of the hand and the forehead might become the common platforms for such interfacing...
