Nigeria's kidnapped girls and slaughtered boys

“I abducted the girls at a Western education school,” said Abubakar Shekau, the leader of Boko Haram. “And you are disturbed. I said Western education should end... I abducted your girls. I will sell them in the market, by Allah. There is a market for selling humans. Allah says I should sell; he commands me to sell. I will sell women. I sell women.”

“It is Allah that instructed us,” added Shekau. “Until we soak the ground of Nigeria with Christian blood and so-called Muslims contradicting Islam. After we have killed, killed, killed, and get fatigue and wondering what to do with their corpses — smelling of Obama, Bush and Jonathan (Nigerian president Goodluck) — will open prison and be imprison the rest. Infidels have no value.”

The kidnapping of 276 (Christian) girls by the (Muslim) group Boko Haram is heartbreaking. It is most urgent, right and proper that Western political leaders do all they can to secure their freedom and restore them to their families and loved ones before they are sold off as child brides for $12 for a life of domestic slavery and spiritual oppression. Michelle Obama thinks YouTube and Instagram can help; David Cameron has taken to Twitter with the hashtag #BringBackOurGirls; and the Archbishop of Canterbury has issued a press release. All of these social-media efforts help to raise the profile of this appalling case and keep it high in the headlines. The UK has sent counter-terrorism and intelligence experts to work alongside the US team already out there. "We stand ready to do anything more that the Nigerians would want," the Prime Minister pledged.

The thing is..

Nigeria's boys have been routinely abducted, tortured, shot or burned alive for years.

There has been no YouTube or Instagram from The White House; no tweet from No10; and no press release from Lambeth Palace.

Of course it is unconscionable to target innocent Christian girls simply because they are being educated in a 'Western' way ('Boko Haram' means 'Western education is forbidden'). It is an act of moral depravity to force them into marriage or sell them into sex slavery and a wretched life of unimaginable horror. They will doubtless be raped and 'converted' to the way of Allah, just as untold thousands of women and girls have been for centuries right across the Prophet's lands.

But boys are targeted, too. Not usually to be raped or forcibly converted, but tortured and burned alive.

Where is the outrage? Where is the heartbrokenness? Are they not worth even a hashtag?

1. Allah says I should sell.
2. He commands me to sell.
3. I will sell women.
4. I sell women.

The progression is from "should" to "must", and from "will be" to "is".

Textbook self-delusion.

Should the hunters actually find the muslims and the girls, and should they actually free the girls, what about the muslims who followed their satanic religion and perpetrated these atrocities? If they are not all killed by the hunters, are they to be allowed to roam free, or captured and put on trial, wasting yet more time and money? And what about all the muslim ayatollahs, imams and mullahs in the world who are approving and even mandating that the followers of islam behave like beasts; why aren't they being neutralised?

This is just like Kony 2012. It's appalling, yes, but what the liberal media isn't willing to acknowledge is that the only way to stop these people is with force.

And who, exactly, in the west is going to apply that force?

By all means write a strongly worded letter to Boko Haram telling them how appalled you are. Just don't expect anything to come of it. The only way this ends is with Nigerian armed forces taking Boko Haram off the map.

I am not holding my breath.

This appalling crime has provoked me to an unchristian response (find the abductors and kill the f'ing lot of them), because, as an ordinary decent man, I feel a natural revulsion and anger towards any creature who would abduct, rape and then 'sell' a girl or young woman. I suppose I do not feel the same sense of visceral abhorrence to crimes of violence against young men. They are, of course, horrendous, but I suppose I am inured to them somehow.

This sense of 'chivalry' towards women – the instinctive male desire to protect – is not why the world's media and political elite are campaigning in public to have the girls freed. Rather, it is a feminist reaction to the targeting of young women who are trying to be educated. It is therefore seen as a battle of the enlightened and emancipated against the forces of ignorance and sexism. In this regard and in the popular narrative, religion has no part of it.

Most of the people on this blog would, I suspect, see it instead as the battle between Christianity and the forces of Islam; between reason and violent absolutism. This obvious conclusion is why the media and elites avoided the issue for weeks and why the actual words of the devout Abubakar Shekau have never been broadcast on the BBC or Sky.

Not to worry, a few years ago a Muslim colleague of mine, speaking about the inevitable international supremacy of Islam, said that as a Muslim he would willingly accept Christians and Jews – tolerated reasonably though not equally. Secularists and atheists, though, he said, would be sent to their eternal rest immediately, as would other 'protected' groups.

Talking about how he, a Pakistani, had actually been welcomed and supported in England – educated and housed here – and how he intended to 'repay' the secular society that had promoted in law his right to replicate Pakistan in the north of England, he laughed and said 'And they say we don't have sense of humour…'

Western politicians and church leaders seek to present Islam in the most positive light so, while they can just about live with #BringBackOurGirls, #StopKillingOurBoys would be too off-message.

By enslaving females and killing males, Boko Haram is obeying Islamic law and finding favour with Allah:

● o9.13 When a child or a woman is taken captive, they become slaves by the fact of capture, and the woman’s previous marriage is immediately annulled.
● o9.14 When an adult male is taken captive, the caliph considers the interests (of Islam and the Muslims) and decides between the prisoner’s death, slavery, release without paying anything, or ransoming [him] in exchange for money or for a Muslim captive held by the enemy.—Reliance of the Traveller

Wonderful example of the Islamic regard for family values. I hope the the joker we have for a Pope is paying attention.

In Syria and Libya, countries that did no harm to the West, the thugs Cameron and Sarkozy could find could find the wherewithal to bomb the places and support the "freedom fighters", but here all the remaining creep can do is is hold up slogans.

But we still have UKIP supporter Pat Condell trying to keep the message alive -

It was their Christianity which caused these girls to become victims of these Islamic extremists.
Boko Haram might, indeed, abduct Muslim girls from school because it thought they should be back at home, to be covered up, beaten, and to make the soup. But it would only dare to sell Christians into slavery and prostitution

To whom are these people holding up these notices 'bring back our girls' are they hoping 'someone else' will take responsibility for them?.

All true and we should do something about it (provided, of course, that we can do so without making matters worse).

But can we please not forget the adults who have been and are being slaughtered byt the same group?

When a number of British soldiers were captured in Sierra Leone in 2000, a large force was gathered and the rebels holding the hostages were attacked and the soldiers freed. This was carried out in the greatest secrecy.

I know there is an enormous demand from the media for information, but the same information is available to Boko Haram. Should the presence of troops not be kept silent in order to take advantage of surprise? Except in the case of politicians who want to take advantage of the situation to promote their own image. What can a #message do in this situation? Cameron and Michele look good though!

Thanks you, Ars! A remarkable video and a remarkable lady. Apart from anything else, I noticed that on top of the bookcase behind her she has a menorah and also what looks like a shofar, a ram's horn trumpet. Here in Brazil it's common for the Evangelical churches, particularly the Pentecostals, to borrow Jewish religous symnbols as a way of distancing themselves visually from Catholicism. Could it be the same in Germany as well?

It certainly makes a change to see someone like Heidi Mund who has the courage of her convictions.

This concert took place in a Christian church, and I wouldn't have believed that the church would have allowed it if I hadn't performed it myself in St Albans Abbey a few years back. The Abbey staff are very particular about what is performed there, not liking secular works at all. The Armed Man is very well known and often performed, and they would surely have been aware that it has the Muslim Call to Prayer included in it. I could hardly believe my eyes when the Imam started his chant. I had simply imagined that part would be left out.

I think it's great that there is such an outcry. However, there is a problem of selectivity. I fear that part of the issue is that the West does not really believe in equality. Thus the kidnapping of girls to stop them having an education counts more than (say) the kidnapping of Christian children to stop them being Christians.

Spot on !

My reading of the situation is the western liberal media outrage is really about preventing girls receiving a western education ( standard feminism?) and obviously, kidnapping,

but not about either, (a) stopping them from being Christian, or (b) the brutal murder of boys, (misandry?).

Here's David in another embarrassing hypocritical situation as presented on MSN.
The Prime Minister said it was not "necessary" to remove Barlow's honour(OBE)because he had "done a huge amount for the country" and "raised money for charity". The staunch defence came despite Mr Cameron having previously condemned comedian Jimmy Carr for investing in a similar tax scheme. The premier also faced embarrassment when a video emerged of him praising Barlow, who lives in his Witney constituency and supported the Tories at the last election, as a "really lovely man".

I heard today that the local Nigerian leader of a Bible school in Jos, Nigeria, was traveling from Abuja to Jos with some Australian colleagues from the school when they were ambushed in a robbery. Whilst the Australians whom I know well escaped, the Nigerian was shot and killed. Such is the lawlessness of the Northern Nigeria and the need for the Gospel to be taken to the Muslim villages which this Bible school does.

Good point Archbishop. Boko Haram have overstepped the mark of what passes for decency amongst politicians, though only just. But can you blame them ? Their successful policy of genocide against young black Christian lads, arousing so pitiful disinterest in the West, would have spurred them on to ever greater triumphs, as we can see.

Oh for the days of empire, when a district commissioner could have called on the Kings African Rifles to {AHEM} ‘remove’ Boko Haram from his area. With no bleeding heart journalists around, one is sure a lasting solution would have been found, as indeed in those days, they were, and nobody knew any the better.

Sometimes, but only occasionally mind, the only recourse is to kill and purify. Has a rather biblical resonance about it, don’t you think. Very OT. Who said Christians were big softies ? But don’t forget now, keep those journalists away.

Which text specifically denies the Father and the Son? Was that text not supposedly dictated by a spirit? Do we not know then that the spirit of that book is of the anti-Christ?

This is probably why terrorist groups flourish in areas of weak indecisive Governments.

There need to be some sort of united response to terrorists which was the role of the UN but even that seems to be ineffective as the member nations cannot get it together.

Obama Administration Threatened Nigeria with Sanctions in 2013 for Fighting Boko Haram

“No wonder the Nigerian government was initially reluctant to accept U.S. assistance with finding the more than 200 Christian girls kidnapped by Boko Haram last month. Emboldening Nigeria’s Islamic terrorist enemies and having been already accused by the Obama administration of crimes against humanity for fighting militants who were responsible for hundreds of civilian deaths since 2010, they likely felt that Obama’s belated support was more a product of diplomatic CYA than actually caring about the fate of kidnapped Nigerian children.”
